IMS Helps Instruments of Mercy Assist Volunteer Surgeons in Haiti

Repair of Surgical Instruments Provided at No Cost


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - January 19, 2010 - Surgeons embarking for Haiti to assist earthquake victims can have their surgical devices refurbished prior to departure at no cost through the non‐profit organization Instruments of Mercy, Inc®.

"We've heard reports of surgeons having to use rusty instruments and hacksaws to amputate limbs," said Gene Robinson, founder of Instruments of Mercy and CEO of IMS, a surgical instrument management and consulting company that supports Instruments of Mercy. "We want to help the surgeons who are leaving now and in the coming weeks ensure their surgical instruments are in excellent operating condition."

To assist surgical teams, Instruments of Mercy will secure repair, at no charge, for flexible endoscopes, rigid endoscopes, power equipment, stainless instruments, and laparoscopic and specialty instruments.
