IMS Announces Plans for 10-Acre Birmingham Campus

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - February 24, 2010 - To make way for its continued growth, IMS has purchased a 55,000-square-foot building near its repair facility in Birmingham, Alabama. The purchase will enable IMS to develop a single, 10-acre campus to accommodate its corporate headquarters as well as the repair facility and Wedge Manufacturing, a division that produces precision parts. (Surgical Optics, IMS' research and development facility, will remain in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.) In the coming months, IMS will be working with neighboring Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, the City of Birmingham, and other entities to develop the entire area as the Sloss District. New landscaping, lighting, and other amenities have been proposed for the area, to coincide with the construction of a much-anticipated new visitors' center at Sloss Furnaces.
