Background
Trinity Medical Center is a 534-bed tertiary care healthcare facility located in Birmingham, Alabama. The campus has 20 operating suites that specialize in orthopedic, neurological, GYN, ENT, general, plastic, urological, vascular and cardiovascular surgery. Surgical procedures reach a volume of 12,800 annually. The tissue management process must accommodate 62 tissue implants/month.
Key Challenges
Paper trails of "on-hand" inventory, inflated inventory levels, and last minute identification of expired products. This manual process also resulted in loss of productive time with the daily management requirements, product recall efforts, and a bottom line loss due to untracked expired tissue products.
Strategy
Implement IMS ReadyTracker® -Tissue to address these issues.
Results
Trinity Medical Center is compliant with standards, achieving savings, and increasing efficiency.
"During our recent JCAHO inspection, we were asked to pull inventory information on our tissue. We were ready. What normally would have taken us days – or even weeks – to do, only took us a couple of hours with the IMS tissue tracking software." Education Coordinator – Surgical Services Trinity Medical Center
